Gerald Johnson, D.D.S.
Dr. Gerald Johnson is a Cincinnati native who graduated magna cum laude from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in mathematics. While attending the University of Cincinnati, he was awarded the Harry S. Kieval Scholarship in mathematics. Upon graduation, Dr. Johnson attended Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago on a full academic scholarship from the United States Navy. Dr. Johnson graduated at the top of his class at Northwestern and was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental academic honor society. Upon graduation, Dr. Johnson received a commission as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. While in dental school, Dr. Johnson discovered his keen interest in orthodontics and thereafter attended the orthodontic residency program at the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
After completion of his orthodontic residency, Dr. Johnson served as the staff orthodontist at the United States Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy for several years. There he treated children of active-duty families, in addition to military personnel. While living in Europe, Dr. Johnson had the opportunity to attend many international orthodontic conferences. In addition, he was the lead author of a research paper published in a nationally reviewed scientific journal, based on the findings of a research project he designed. After completion of his tour of duty in Naples, Dr. Johnson was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his meritorious service. Dr. Johnson was then selected to be the orthodontist for the prestigious United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. There he treated complex orthognathic surgical cases with the surgical team at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Hospital. Dr. Johnson also was a guest lecturer at the post-graduate Naval Dental School at Bethesda Naval Hospital. While in Annapolis, Dr. Johnson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy.
Dr. Johnson is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, Ohio Dental Society, Cincinnati Dental Society and other local dental study clubs. He also attends many continuing education courses throughout the year to stay abreast of current changes in the field of dentistry and orthodontics.
When not straightening teeth, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with his children. His other interests include traveling, running, cycling, music, boating, fishing, and classic automobile restoration.
